Keely Cecil

FGCDL FC: Who is Keely Cecil?

I am 18 and a junior at Ida Baker high school. We just moved to Cape Coral in May 2016.  I was born in Owensboro KY and lived there until the move. I attended Daviess County high school.

FGCDL FC: What soccer experience you bring to the women's team?

I started playing soccer at 4. I played middle school while in 5th and 6th grade, started JV in 7th and 8th grade. I was captain during 8th grade. I was starting varsity player my freshman and sophomore year. This past season I was a starter for varsity team at Ida Baker and was given the opportunity to be captain for some of the games. While in Owensboro, I played several seasons of travel with United Soccer Club.  During the offseason, I trained at Sports Tutor doing futsal.  Since I have been here, I have trained with the Dutch Lions. In my spare time, I like to listen to music and watch movies."

FGCDL FC: What is your best moment in soccer?

One of my best soccer memories is during a game with Daviess County. As a defender, you don't have as much opportunity to score. I was in front on the goal during a corner kick and was able to put a head on it and score!

FGCDL FC: What do you expect for the upcoming season?

I have not decided on a college, but; I do hope to play wherever I go. I am looking forward to the playing for the WPSL and the think the experience will a great opportunity to better myself and meet new people.

Vincent de Weger, Director of Soccer Operations, is delighted with Keely Cecil as player of our Women's Team: "Keely is an excellent defender who is difficult to pass 1on1 and besides that, she has the communication skills that we search for in a defender. She is a true leader of our oldest girls team in our Youth Academy and I know for sure that she will be a real asset for the team. Keely is our first player but we hope to see more local girls at our try-outs. The 1st try-out is February 24th.
