The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC women's team lost the derby vs CCSA last night with 2-0. The Lions got off to a bad start getting scored on in the 3rd minute already off a goal of Ryleigh Acosta, who previously played for Dutch Lions FC. The Lions struggled for the 10 minutes to keep the score at 1-0, with CCSA also missing a penalty kick. But slowly the Lions fought themselves back in the game and especially in the beginning of the second half were able to press several times and win the ball but were not efficient enough in the final third. Instead of scoring the equalizer it was Mason Schilling that scored 2-0 in the 83rd minute to secure the win for CCSA.
Genevieve Sauers - who was very solid again in the backline - commented on the loss: “Preventable errors in the game ultimately led to our loss last night. I do however believe that we have finally grown comfortable with each other as a new team, and established a better sense of trust for each other collectively. We did well competing with CCSA and got ourselves back in the game but missed some creativity up front. Now we simply have to get to work in practice to fix our mistakes and earn a win in the next game."
Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is now 0-0-3 while CCSA moves to 1-0-1. The Lions are back in action on Saturday when they has FC Prime at Paradise Coast Sports Complex at 7pm.
