FGCDL FC unfortunate in final weekend, lose 0-1 and 3-2

The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC Women's team came close to picking up their first points of the season in their final weekend of play vs Miami United FC and Sunrise Prime FC.

On Friday evening the Lions played their final home game of the 2021 season vs Miami United FC (3-5-2). After losing 1-0 the Lions traveled to Sunrise Prime FC (2-7-1) to play their last game of the season. Sunrise prime FC beat the Lions 1-0 in the first game between the two teams in Fort Myers. After taking a 1-0 lead Sunrise battled back and won 3-2.

Head Coach Yvonne Ploeg looked back on the season with mixed feelings: "We had a very young team this year with certainly some talent, but in too many games we gave up goals too easy and we also missed someone up front to score goals for us. I am pleased the girls kept working hard throughout the season and I feel we deserved more in our final two games. I was fortunate to have a great staff this season with Sergiy, Eddie and Shannon. But I also especially want to thank Bishop Verot HS for being such a great partner for us this season".
