Women’s team lose opening game 1-3 vs FC Surge

Kelly Giddes scores first Dutch Lions FC goal in 2021 season

The FGCDL FC women's team lost their season opener 1-3 at home at Bishop Verot HS on Saturday. At halftime the score was 0-2. The young team, led by Head Coach Yvonne Ploeg, had a strong back the second half leading to the 1-2 scored by Kelly Giddes. She was assisted by young talent Sophia Cherniak. Unfortunately FC Surge bounced back immediately and restored their 2 goal lead.

Head Coach Yvonne Ploeg commented on the loss: "Unfortunately we could not start with a win tonight in our season opener. We have a new group with young players and this is a good learning experience for them. FC Surge has been together for a longer time and have some good players. I was especially pleased with our 2nd half, the girls really started to connect, play good soccer and press high. Our goal was a good example how we want to play building up from the back. We had a few more chances but unfortunately could not score more than one. We can take a lot from this game and will go back to work on Monday to prepare for our 2nd game on June 2 vs CCSA."
