Women’s team playing five home games in Fort Myers
Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC (FGCDL FC) today announced a partnership with Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers. Part of the partnership is that the FGCDL FC Women’s team will play all their 2021 home games in the Sunshine Conference of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) at their facility. The WPSL is considered the 2nd tier in US women’s soccer. The 2021 season will kick off on May 22nd with FGCDL FC hosting FC Surge at 7pm.
Besides playing their home games the team will also have several training sessions at the facility. As part of the partnerships Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is giving free access to all home games to all staff members and students of Bishop Verot Catholic High School.
Athletic Director Jason Baumgardner commented on the partnership: “Bishop Verot is pleased with our partnership with the Dutch Lions FC and is looking forward to some exciting soccer this coming summer!”
Dutch Lions FC’s CEO Mike Mossel had this to say on the partnership: “An important part of creating a gateway to professional soccer is training and playing at the best facilities. Bishop Verot Catholic High School has exactly that. But besides that, our missions are very much aligned centered around learning and providing experiences. Jason (Baumgardner) has been great getting this partnership off the ground and I look forward to further develop our relationship the coming years.”
About Bishop Verot Catholic High School
Bishop Verot Catholic High School was established in 1962 as Fort Myers Central Catholic High School. The school was renamed Bishop Verot when they moved to their newly constructed location in 1964. The school is named after Bishop Augustin Verot, the first Bishop of Florida. The school's sports teams are nicknamed the "Vikings." The outdoor teams play on field turf installed in 2005. The school is located at 5598 Sunrise Dr., Ft. Myers, FL 33919.
WPSL Sunshine Conference
The Southern Division Sunshine Conference features teams in the Miami, Fort Myers, and Fort Lauderdale areas. The division will be represented by the Cape Coral Cyclones (Cape Coral), FC Surge (Miami), Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC (Fort Myers), Miami United FC, Sunrise Prime FC (Fort Lauderdale), and Team Boca Blast (West Palm Beach). The season runs from May 22 to the 3rd week of July depending on play-offs.
