Cape Coral, August 23rd- Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC closed down the first week of practice with a great Orange Family event: FGCDL FC Opening day.
The day started with a 45 minute presentation by Director of Soccer Operations Vincent de Weger. During this General Parent meeting Vincent talked about the structure, philosophy and rules in the club. Next to this he talked about what we expect from coaches, players, parents and partners. The partners introduces themselves and received a great applause from all the Orange Family members.
After the presentation every coach took his team to a seperate room and spoke with all the team members for 15 minutes. Every coach explained what he expected next to the regular rules and introduces all the new players to the team.
When the clock hitted 11 am the Orange Family went outside for the main event of this day; Parent versus their children. Every team played a 30 minute game. Sometimes the parents won, but sometimes the children showed their parents what they learned the last couple of years and took the win. The most important aspect in these games was having fun and playing against your parents. Something that doesn't happen often but today it all went great.
The final game of the day was a select group of parents versus the coaches. All the 14 coaches got together, made their line-up and directed by midfielder Davy they took a easy 3-0 led. But the parents got their organization together, worked harder then ever before and came back to 3-2. That was the moment for Coach Chrysten to show her skills and pass 3 defenders in less then 4 seconds. With a great pass Coach Vincent only had to put the ball in the goal. The final moment was for Coach John and Davy. After a great through ball of John, Davy came 1v1 with the goalkeeper from the side and scored a brilliant screamer. 5-2 was the end results, but the fun that everybody had was remembered.
