Cape Coral, May 24- Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is excited to announce the return of Lorena Alvarado and Karleigh Acosta. Karleigh is playing D1 after this summer and Lorena is on the radar of a lot of D1 and D2 schools. We had an interview with Lorena and Karleigh
FGCDL FC: Who are you, where are you from and how old are you?
Lorena: My name is Lorena Alvarado, I am from Naples, FL, and I’m 15 years old.
Karleigh: I am Karleigh Acosta. I am from Cape Coral, Florida and I am 18 years old.
FGCDL FC: Which college will you be attending after this FGCDL FC Women's Team season?
Lorena: After my participation in the WSPL Sunshine Conference with Dutch Lions, I will start my high school sophomore year. I am home schooled but I will play high school soccer with First Baptist Academy in Naples and my 2018 season with GPS FL West NPL.
Karleigh: I will be attending Northwestern State University of Louisiana after this season.
FGCDL FC: What kind of honors did you receive in your player career?
Lorena: This being my first year playing my high school soccer, I received 3 awards: First Team All-State, Second Team All-Area and Most Improved Player.
Karleigh: For high school, I have received the leadership award, and the career excellence award. Also, my team was the 2018 district champions. For club, my team was ranked second in the state throughout the 2017-2018 season.
FGCDL FC: Why do you return for your 2nd season at Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC?
Lorena: After the end of last season coach Vincent invited me to come back this year to be part of this venture again. I am so excited and committed to put out my best effort to make this participation a success. Being the youngest in the team for the second year in row is a privilege for me. I get to learn from more experienced players as well as the superb coaching from Coach Vincent and Davy. Although the stats weren’t in our favor last season, I learned a lot to better myself as a player. This year I am back for a second season, hungry to go far in the tournament, and learn a lot more.
Karleigh: I returned for my second FGCDL FC season to help prepare me for college soccer.
FGCDL FC: What makes the FGCDL FC so different compare to other clubs?
Lorena: FGCDL FC is very different from other clubs in the area. They train using a different style of play that is used in Europe. They are also very family friendly. Whenever you see the club together, you think of a family.
Karleigh: The playing style is different from other teams that we play against. Also, the coaches care about where you feel most comfortable playing and also teach how to play other positions.
FGCDL FC: What are your expectations for coming season?
Lorena: My expectation for the team this season is for us to work hard and to get far in the league. My expectations for myself is to come out this season having improved abundantly in all areas of my soccer knowledge and performance.
Karleigh: I expect to end this season with a winning record and to grow as a player.
Head Coach Vincent de Weger is happy that Lorena and Karleigh return for their second season: "Lorena and Karleigh are both one of the better ones in their age category and they showed that last year. I am positive that they will handle themselves is our team and that they will learn a lot."
June 2nd is our home-opener and also the first moment you can see Karleigh and Lorena show their potential.
