Cape Coral, April 19- Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is very happy to announce that Jessica Monteiro and Alex Maxson will play for our Women's Team this summer. We spoke with these talent to get to know them better.
FGCDL FC: Who are you girls? Where are you from and what is your age?
Jessica: My name is Jessica Monteiro, I am From Estero Florida, I am 20 years old.
Alex: My name is Alex Maxson, I'm from Naples, Florida and I am 20 years old.
FGCDL FC: Where did you graduate your high school and where do you play College ball?
Jessica: I went to High school at Estero high school and I am Currently a student at Florida Atlantic University
Alex: The high school I attended was Community School of Naples. I now attend Florida Atlantic University.
FGCDL FC: What kind of honors did you receive in your soccer career?
Jessica: During my Soccer career I was a varsity player all 4 years of high school and a captain my junior and senior year. As a competitive player I played for Florida fire juniors being ranked second in the state. Staring my career at FAU I was a starter my freshman and sophomore year and helped lead my team to the conference final in 2017.
Alex: In high school, I was named All-State and All- area. I totaled 57 goals and 47 assists. As a 4-year captain, I led the team to the school's first ever State Finals. We were also back-to-back-to-back district champs. In college, I have been the starting center back for two years now. We appeared in our first ever conference championship. I was named Conference USA Second Team All-Academic as a sophomore.
FGCDL FC: Why did you choose to play for our Women’s Team?
Jessica: I chose to play for the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions to be able to sharpen my skills over summer which will help me excel during my junior year at FAU. I also want to be a part of a program that strives for excellence, achievement and helping players get to the next level.
Alex: I chose to play for Dutch Lions so that I can continue to compete at a high level throughout the summer as I prepare for my junior season of my college career. I am also excited to get to play with some of my former club teammates again from Florida Fire Juniors.
FGCDL FC: What are your expectations for this season?
Jessica: This season I'm hoping to sharpen my skills and become a better player which will translate to my junior season at FAU. Besides that, we want to beat the record from last year.
Alex: I expect to further develop as a player and enjoy playing soccer. Next to that we want to win games. This is a high competitive team and we need to win our games.
Head Coach Vincent de Weger is delighted with Jessica and Alex: “These girls deserved their spots in the team. This because of the drive they have to get better. Besides that both girls have quality that we didn't had yet in our team. I look forward to coach Jessica and Alex.
Our first home game is June 2 at North Fort Myers Community Park. The kick-off is at 4 pm.
