FGCDL FC re-signs Monique Elliott for our Women’s Team

Cape Coral, March 8th- FGCDL FC is thrilled to announce that Women's Team player of 2017 Monique Elliott resigns for our team again. Monique played last year every game with 2 assist and went on a trial to the Netherlands in December. We had an interview with Monique.

FGCDL FC: Who are you, where are you from and how old are you?

My name is Monique Elliott, I'm from Cape Coral, Florida and I'm 23 years old.

FGCDL FC: What is/was your college?

I graduate from Eckerd College last year.

FGCDL FC: What kind of honors did you receive in your player career?

I have received MVP for 4 years of my high school career. I was captain my senior year. I've received 1st team all-conference and 1st team all-region. I was the all time leading scorer at Ida Baker with 102 goals. I'm a state champion.

I've received MVP my freshman year of college. At the end of my junior year I had played 1319 minutes, the most played among non-keepers, and by the end of my senior year I had played 1571 minutes. I got the MVP award in my senior college year.

I went on trial in The Netherlands after my first season at Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC.

FGCDL FC: Why do you return for your 2nd season at Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC?

I am returning because this is the only soccer team around here for my age and I know it's going to be even better than last year.

FGCDL FC: What is the difference coaching wise between Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC and other clubs you played for?

What sets the coaching style apart from other clubs I've played for, is the style of play they try to enforce among the girls. Less direct play, more working together as a team, building from the back and using our goalie as a field player.

FGCDL FC: What are your expectations for coming summer?

I expect the level of play to be higher because more girls are interested in the program after hearing how the first year went. I expect the program to build all around and I expect a great season.

FGCDL FC Women's Team Head Coach Vincent de Weger is delighted to have Monique back: "Monique is that player that every coach wants in his team. She works hard, has the talent for attack and defense and is a great inspiration for other girls. I am sure that Monique will have a huge impact in the team."
