FGCDL FC U13B second at Southwest Spring Cup

Cape Coral, May 1st- It was another good weekend for our Youth Academy with tournaments in Naples and at Kelly Road, with as highlight the 2nd place for the U13B, and a 3v3 at Ida Baker for the younger ages.

The 3v3 tournament comes to an end and it is an exciting race who becomes the 3v3 winner of the season. With team Orange as winner in Bracket B and also team Orange as winner in Bracket A the winner is still not sure. Thierry, Tony and Michael are the 3 players that still have a chance on winning the title of best 3v3 player.

The U9 played a great tournament at Kelly Road. The first game was an unfortunate loss, but the 2nd game was a 7-0 victory over Elite Soccer Academy. On Sunday they needed a win and a good result on the other fields to go to the final. With halftime the team was 2-0 behind, but coach Menno knew what his players could do and motivated them to keep going. 1 minute after halftime it was already 2-1 by Jackson and a couple of minutes later 2-2 by Blaine. Tristan made in the last minutes the 3-2 and that meant a victory. The result on the other fields was not in favor of the young Lions. With a 3rd place the team can be proud of themselves.

The U11B is a combination team of U10 and U11 players. They played also at Kelly Road, but this time in a U12 bracket. During the games they showed that technical they can compete with the older ages, but physical there is still work to do. With 1 victory and a 3rd place at the tournament the team did amazing and showed their improvement. They won their last game by a great goal of Christian in the last minute of the game against Elite.

The U13B played a good first day at Kelly Road and qualified after 2 games, with 2 victories, already for the final on Sunday. The final on Sunday was from both sides not organized soccer and you saw that the players were nervous. With a final score of 2-0 for Immokalee, the U13B won for 3 tournaments in a row the 2nd place. The team showed their development during the season. Good job Lions.

The U16G went to Naples to join the Adidas Cup. In a group with some great teams the girls showed why they won the tournament last week. With 1 victory and 1 draw they came just short for the final. The goal of the season came from Katrina. With a build up from the back from Chloe, to Hanna and multiple other players the ball came with Katrina. Katrina shot the ball in the far upper 90 and made it 1-1. Good job girls with the result.

This were the last tournaments for our Youth Academy. Tryouts for the next season will be held on 13-15-22 of May. Signing up can be done through our website.
