Cape Coral, February 28 2017- Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions is very happy to announce Alexus Turley as their newest player of the Women's team. Alexus plays right now for GPS Florida West and will join our Women's team for this summer. We had an interview with Alexus Turley and Director of Soccer Operations Vincent de Weger.
FGCDL FC: Who is Alexus Turley?
My name is Alexus Turley, I’m 16 years old, and I am from Naples, Florida. I currently enrolled as a sophomore at Lorenzo Walker Technical High school. I am currently Dual enrolled through my high school at Florida Southwestern State College.
FGCDL FC: What soccer experience you bring to the women’s team?
I started playing competitive soccer at age 10 for South West Florida United and then later played at the Florida Fire before transitioning to GPS Florida West in 2015. I also began playing futsal at the Naples Eagle Academy at the age of 10. Under GPS Florida West I was chosen to play for the 2016 GPS FC Bayern Munich National Team and have been selected for this year’s 2017 FC Bayern Munich National Team. I have been chosen to try out for the US Youth Futsal National Team and made the Regional Futsal Team in the year 2016. In addition, I was able to guest-play with a Canadian-based team in the 2015 and 2016 world futsal championships.
FGCDL FC: What is your best moment in soccer?
My best moment in soccer was able to represent the FC Bayern Munich National Team in the San Diego surf cup. It was an awesome experience being able to play at such a high level with other extremely talented players in front of hundreds of college coaches.
FGCDL FC: What do you expect for the upcoming season?
My expectations for the upcoming season are to continue to grow as a player by playing alongside other highly talented local and international players. I look forward to coming together as a team and being competitive in the WPSL. I also look forward to training in a highly competitive environment to help prepare me for collegiate or international opportunities.
Vincent de Weger, Director of Soccer Operations, is happy with Alexus Turley as player of our Women’s Team: “Alexus is a great midfielder with amazing qualities. In a midfielder, we look for flair, passion and technical skills. She has that all and I hope that she keeps developing like she did the previous years. Besides her talent, she has a lot of experience for her age. We think and hope that Alexus will be a real asset to our Women's team.
