FGCDL FC close a collaboration with Allied Physical Therapy

Cape Coral, January 31 2017 - Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is proud to announce that we will work together with Allied Physical Therapy. FGCDL FC had an interview with founder and president Matthew Harkness of Allied Physical Therapy about their future with us.

Can you introduce yourself?

I am husband and father to 4 kids ages 6, 8, 10 and 12.  Following multiple injuries as a youth and young adult I developed and appreciation and passion to pursue Athletic Training and Physical Therapy as a career.  I am the founder and president of Allied Physical Therapy here in Cape Coral.

What does Allied Physical Therapy specialize in:

Simply stated as a company we help you and your kids get back to what they love! Whether it's playing, soccer, sports or just keeping up and active healthy lifestyle.  We specialize in acute injury assessment and treatment on the field and proper injury rehab from a total body perspective.  For example, if you have and ankle injury and lose mobility and strength you will put your knee at risk for increased injury and even possible ligament tear.  While supportive brace or taping is often appropriate, the key is proper sports rehab and return to full athletic play without bracing.

Following recover from injury we train athlete's self awareness and prevention strategies to stay on the field playing the game they love.

How did we get in contact with Dutch Lions?

My wife and I heard about the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions and the Dutch Philosophy: focusing on skill development, working together as a team and finding the position that matches the athlete's strength.  We wanted a team that is athlete focused vs winning focused.

Our daughter Madeline joined the Dutch Lions in 2016.  She is excited to go to practice, improve her skills, and has made great friends with her teammates and appreciates the caring attitude of the coaches.  She has made the most progress this year athletically and as a person with the Dutch Lions since she began playing soccer at age 5.  As a parent my wife and appreciate the openness of the coaches to give us feedback and teach us how we can better encourage and support Madeline in her athletic development.

What is the structure of the partnership?

Our sports rehab team will be at select games and practices, services include:

  • Taping
  • Stretching
  • Treatment, instruction and education
  • On field injury assessment
  • Clearing athletes to play and working with coaches
  • Injury prevention and emergency procedures

We also have our professional clinic for onsite rehab if appropriate.  We have an excellent network of specialist including orthopedists and primary care doctors if referrals or imaging testing is warranted.

What are the benefits for the players?

I firm believer that we can all learn from each other.  By provided medical services to the Dutch lions combined with great coaching, strength and conditioning training and support of the parents our kids will be prepared to win in the game of life.

"I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion."   -Mia Hamm
