Phenomenal weekend for FGCDL FC Youth Academy

Cape Coral, November 21, 2016 - Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC had a busy weekend with games for all teams (vs Elite, Ida Baker High School and Cape Coral FC), and a fundraiser in partnership with Fathoms Bar and Restaurant.

The U8 started on Saturday with a 3v3 tournament. Every team represented a country and played 5 games. Overall, the teams played very well. Eventually the winning team was: Derek Painter, Jonathan Camela and Tony Morthorst.

The U9D played against Elite U10G and had a tough first half. In the second half the team of John Teeter played a lot better and created some good chances to score a goal. U8E player Derek Painter strengthened the team and played a great game. Coach John Teeter was proud of how his team played in the second half.

The U9E played without their goalkeeper because he was sick. Apart from that, they played a good game and showed how much they improved keeping possession of the ball. Unfortunately they lost 6-3, but coach Menno was pleased with what he saw. U8E players Marley Gutierrez and Jackson Smith played their first game with the U9E team and did well.

The U10B played against the U10 of Elite and picked up a well deserved 6-1 win while scoring some amazing goals. Coach Davy definitely looks forward to the upcoming weeks.

The U11 had a game against the U11 of Elite. It was a close game where Elite came out as a winner but the U11G played a good first half and at halftime the score was still 2-2.

The U13B played against Elite U14. During the game it was clear that the opponent was a year older, stronger and faster, resulting in a loss. But it was a good experience for the U13B team.

Despite a loss the U17 continued their improvement we've seen the last few weeks, with some good passing and good runs.

The U16G lost 2-0 against a team of Ida Baker JV and Varsity. With U13G player Gabriel McIntyre in the squad, they can look back on a good game. Coach Vincent saw some points the team has to work on during the upcoming weeks as preparation for the College Showcase in Naples.

In the evening FGCDL FC had their second fundraiser at Fathoms Bar and Restaurant with the whole Orange Family. The turnout was fantastic. The theme of the fundraiser was "snow festival". With fake snow, photo Booth, face painting, arts & crafts, and a dunk tank where everyone could try to dunk the coaches, the fundraising was a big success. With the money that was raised, the FGCDL FC will buy some new practice equipment and also pay for tournament registrations.
