Former World Cup Stars Adriano (Brazil) and Govou (France) plays against new Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC Men’s team in April and May.
Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC is proud to announce that they will have a Men’s team in 2016. The team will not compete in a league, but instead will play 8-10 exhibition games against professional soccer clubs in Florida. The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC team will consist of the best local talents combined with several professional players from the Netherlands that will come in as guest players. Try-Outs will be part of our selection procedure so we can make sure that our UEFA licensed soccer coaches select the best team. A few of the clubs they will play are Miami United FC and FC Miami City. The club is currently working on setting all the dates and locations for the other games.
One of the teams that they play against in Cape Coral is Miami United FC. The Miami team has some of the strongest players in the Miami region, but also former Copa America winner and Italian Premier League winner Adriano in the team. Jouko Gorissen commented on the game and Adriano: “With over 140 matches for Internazionale and 48 matches for the Brazilian squad this is a really big player. It will be amazing to see him here in Cape Coral”.
Another team they play against is Miami City FC. Miami City FC is part of Paris Saint Germain, the best club in Paris and one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Coach Wagner Eloi, former player in France, has a strong team with a couple of former internationals. Sidney Govou is one of those players. He played 49 matches for the France national team and ended second at the world cup of 2006. “Govou is in France and Europe known as a strong defender that has a great career. For the club it is a great experience to play against a player of this caliber.”
“We are partnering with local schools to not only invite the kids to come to the game(s) for free but also provide a range of activities around the home games which will make the games a great family night out. Besides fun we will also have a game that is Cancer Awareness Night where we donate proceedings of our game jersey sales to cancer awareness. We will announce more news regarding our games and activities in the coming weeks.”
With these matches the Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC shows that they are a gateway to professional soccer. “With these matches we can show the people how it is to be a professional and to play on the highest level. Not only for the players in the team, but also for the youth academy. We want to provide the children the chance to become a professional and thanks to our club, Dutch Lions FC structure (with 6 clubs) and network we can do that”, said Academy Manager Klaas Boersma.
