FGCDL FC Super20 team gives away win in last minutes of the game
June 7, 2015 Cape Coral FL - The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC Super20 team tied Tampa Bay United today. After leading 1-0 until the 87th minute Tampa scored the equalizer off a penalty kick given in the 87th minute.
The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC (FGCDL) dominated possession early on in the game and with more than doubling the amount of shots on goal as their opponent they took the lead in the 24th minute on a solo run and goal by Jorge Moreno. The second half started with the Tampa Bay United (TBU) team pressing for the equalizer but things seemed take a turn in the 65th minute when J. Mitland (TBU) got his second yellow card of the game, which resulted in a red card suspension from the game.
Now, leading the game and up a man, the Dutch Lions FC tried hard to get another goal but they just couldn’t get a shot to go in even after coming close and even hitting the crossbar. The game turned in the 87th minute when the referee called a foul inside the Dutch Lions FC box resulting in a penalty kick for Tampa Bay. J. Jimenez stepped up and coolly slotted the ball into the left side of the net as the Dutch Lions FC keeper J. Munoz-Venegas dove to his right.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie and both teams go away from the opening game of the season with a point. The Florida Gulf Coast Dutch Lions FC’s next game is Wednesday, June 10th at 3 p.m. again at Jim Jeffers Park vs Miramar United.
